The Chip Charlot Sportsmanship Award
Every season AVYSL will present an award for Sportsmanship in the name of Chip Charlot. Chip Charlot was the president of Hudson Youth Soccer for years and a valued member of the Assabet Valley Youth Soccer League as a coach and representative. During his time with our league he was a champion of doing what was best for the players and a model of sportsmanship in coaching. His presence in our league will be missed.
Towns are encouraged to nominate a coach from their town who they feel is an example of sportsmanship to their players and to other coaches. Alternatively, a coach from another town's team may also be nominated. Nominations with a description of the coach's manner of sportsmanship of should be sent to:

Supporting letters from parents, players, other coaches or board members that would further establish the qualities of sportsmanship displayed by the nominee and would make the selection process easier are greatly appreciated but not required.
Qualities in a coach that are desired by AVYSL include but are not limited to:
- Making sure, above all else that the players always have fun playing soccer.
- Encouraging the players to become better at the game by setting realistic challenges for them.
- Increase the player's self-esteem and confidence by rewarding their accomplishments.
- Teaching them to be competitive but always play fairly.
- Making sure that every player is treated fairly and is given a chance to excel up to their abilities.
- Never let winning the game become more important than any of the above.
All nominations will be turned over to a nominating committee who will go over all nominations and supporting documents. The committee will narrow the list to 3 nominees. The AVYSL board and Representatives will pick the winner from these three at the end of the season meeting.
The award will consist of a warm up jacket, in the coach's home team colors. The Coach's name will be embroidered on the front along with the emblem Assabet Valley Youth Soccer League Chip Charlot Sportsmanship Award.
